11th April 2011, my first step to the Accenture premise in B6. It was the introduction with Accenture. There were many things in the introduction
but there were two things which stuck in my brain and got imprinted. The impression was getting darker day by day and with each day passing these
two things were getting deep in me. I should tell you them
1. You have to be in office and you have to complete 9 hours per day. (which later became 10 hours)
2. You have to accept the culture which is running in Accenture and in case you not accept that then you will be out of the Accenture.
Well the reason why I have mentioned these two because I lived with these two feelings through out my tenure. Now when it's almost 3 and
half years to complete I am realizing the way I was living with them.
I recently was interviewing one person for my project who has recently joined from outside. He was recruited and hard-locked to a project and
when he was on boarded he was released from the project the way a girl who was expecting due to most enjoyable activity she did but she was not
ready to take the responsibility. I know the words or example I chose is not very appropriate but that was the feeling I got. I only told the
guy - "You have to accept the culture which is running in Accenture and in case you not accept that then you will be out of the Accenture."
Well the reason why I told this is because I was with the same feeling which he was mentioning to me. And yes I should have told him welcome to
herd. Get ready to face them and live with them. Walk with them and go where ever they are going.
So after that started the tiring process of finding your place in organization. You are not aware of the organization and no one is there to help
you out. All you are left on your fate. No HR is there for you to answer your query numbers given to you in your joining letter will be redirected
to some XYZ who is not concerned with your problem.
Well by then your name is in bench list and you are in a place called as ITP which you dont know what its and what to do there. You will start
getting calls from projects loaded with big jargon like hard lock and soft lock and you are not aware whom to ask all these about. So finally
some one is successful in making fool out of you and hard-locking into some random project which matches or not matches with your skill and you
are not shared any information about what how and when and you were supposed to report to some project. Why all these because you are part of herd
and in herd no one cares for you. You have to take care of your self.
So you are in project and started living the life. For me this was such a drastic change because me being from a product base company I can see things
which are new, non-relevant, irritating and wont contribute any thing to your growth.
Now people will ask me why the hell you have shifted to a service based company being from a product based. So I have my own justification for that and
I don't want to mention that here. Because that does not makes sense for many.
Well I joined the project being surprised from all the angles. Whether people, work , policy or motivation. Some how it was 3 months over and a small
thought started taking shape that shall I leave this place and go into some better place but I reminded my self the reason why I opted for a service based company. So I started my journey of learning and I worked hard for almost 3 years and took what all was required for me to build my self.
I worked in almost 3 projects for a duration of approx one year in each team. I met many people during that period. People good and bad both. I saw lazy ass and extremely hard worker too. I saw people who are junior to me and better than me. I saw people senior than me and not good for any thing.
I saw people cribbing and doing nothing. I saw people who are smart enough to handle team in smart way and saw people screwing their own team. So it
was a enriching experience for me.
There are few things I want to mention since all the events if I start writing will be boring for you all.
1. Threat on the floor from manager : here manager will put a gun on your neck and say boss you do not have any option do this or die. I mean loose
your ratings. If you don't follow my order you are a gone case and you will be of no good in Accenture and all consequence. We can change your ratings any time in the tool so do not think of going out. You are trapped.
2. False promises : Managers will show very good dreams to you that we have this work for you and without you we cant be going ahead you come and get
the work delivered. This is a development work. We will be getting a lot of development work and your experience will be required.
3. Growth not per work : If you are doing work tirelessly day and night. Even if you are starting at 9 am and finishing at 3 am regularly still you
are not doing good job. Even if you handling work un-officially you are not doing much. Only if you are good to the manager and licking their butt you are the most talented guy in Accenture and deserve to get all the promotions and hike and yes awards too.
4. Dumb managers and their politics : well many manger I saw who are technically dumb but since you are with Accenture like bed bug sucking blood of
people and expert in doing politics you are so called managers in Accenture.
5. Death of a colleague : Well this was a tragic moment for me and very devastating but I have seen the people who are sense less and so
non-concerned about the death. They could not send a mail about the loss we had in team. They went to see the dead body just because they
were going on leave next day and they need to make up the back up plan in the mortuary.
6. HR telling lies : Well the greatest asset Accenture has got is their HR. They are another creature from Mars. Who are either puppet to
management or just a program created to give you only answer that I don't have any update on this. They are expert in telling lies and that also
of white colour. The confidence in their word are like you just don't have any other option other than believing in them.
7. Release from project : In case you want to get release from project all the rules will be imposed. Its as good as getting out of company menas 3
months notice period you have to serve even if you have work or not.
8. Tireless working hours : 10 hours of work in office and in case you are living little far you can have 2 hours of travel time. It sucks man. You
cant be productive. Even if the official hours are 9.5 you are forced to work for 10 hours. When asked why HR will say ask your manager and manager will say you guys take lot of breaks.
9. Stupid people in team : These dumb ass don't do any thing than sucking your blood. You will be working for them but salary will be only of one
person.
10. Vision less leaders : they don't know what they are doing and why they are doing. Like where the herd is going we will also go. No plan for the team no plan for career.
Well I know I have written all negative things here but I had not looked at them and took all what was important for me. I did all the hard work and learnt a lot on personal profession and human front. I have many friends in Accenture who are good either technically personally or a good human being.
I had a journey which was enriching for me technically and on other front. But now I think that the purpose to come here is about to complete may be
not 100% but to the extent which will help me taking another step.
I am very sure that what ever work I will do next I will definitely correlate with my experience in accenture.
With Love
